12 August 2010
It was our 4th day in Melbourne. Lunch time it is and we had this plan to find this place call Dainty Sichuan 天府川菜馆 at South Yaara along Toorak Road. It wasn’t hard to find this place as we took just one tram from city centre.

Just that we were stupid to stop 1-2 rows of shops away from the restaurant because we saw the signboard Toorak Rd. Lol. Good thing the weather was good so we enjoyed our walk before reaching this place at around 1PM if i’m not mistaken.

If i’m not wrong, this is the 3rd time they shifted location where they were quite well established in Melbourne already. They have been serving Si Chuan 四川 food to the community in Melbourne for decades or more and well i guessed the people who favor spicy food love this place.

Upon entering the place, i see quite a number of people, mainly Chinese of course. The atmosphere and environment of the restaurant was clean and pretty nice with a fair amount of decorations and paintings around. I actually have this positive image of the place already before getting to the food.

灌汤小笼包 Small Steamed Bun AUD$6.80 – 3/5

So Food!!! Yeah, we ordered these steamed buns which was filled with pork mince and soup. Not very impressive but it was just okay. No complaints, just hope they could come out with smaller servings like 4 at once Haha because the remaining dishes we ordered were big in portion.

宫保鸡丁 Kong Pao Chicken AUD$19.80 3.5/5

Kong Pao, Kung Pow, Kong Pou or whatever you call it, this specific Kong Pao Chicken is like totally different the ones i had here in Malaysia. With dry chillies and some Si Chuan spices cooked with boneless chicken. It actually taste quite good, pretty unique for me and they even had peanuts in it! The portion was like… for 4 person. Crazy!

Too much of this would make you feel weird.

石锅红焖羊排 Stewed Lamb Ribs AUD$23.80 – 4/5

Sichaun Home Style stewed lamb ribs was the bomb. I don’t know how much spices they placed into this one as when i scoop the parts below, the sauce was so thick and i could see quite a lot of herbs being cooked with the lamb ribs.

The lamb ribs were so soft and tender that it melts when i placed in in my mouth and it was very very delicious & thanks to the herbs and spices, the lamb meat doesn’t have the smell that would disgust some people and again, the portion can be for 3-4 person as well LOL!!!

清炒藕片 Stirfried Lotus Root AUD$15.80 – 3/5

Last but not least, the only vegetable dish we ordered! Stir fried lotus root. Nothing special about it and the ones in Malaysia are nicer i think. I guessed they are only good in spicy Si Chuan food where they’re specialized and the other food which was on the menu were just averagely fine.

I don’t know did i ask her to pose like that and i don’t know why i took this picture but yeah it was nice being with her =D

Generally, this very Si Chuan food restaurant is a good place to go if you fancy spicy stuffs and you love Chinese food to the max that is but if you’re not such a big eater, be careful on the amount of the dish you are gonna order because i can’t manage to finish the food above with my girlfriend. =X

Heard that there were other more awesome delicious food at this place from friends but didn’t order them because the portion were much bigger according to the waiter serving that day, must go visit this place again next time!!! With a few more friends Lol!!!
